The strategic planning provides the basis to begin the creative development. The premise of great creative strategy is to demand attention and then to sell your product. These concepts are developed within what we define as the range of acceptability — boundaries for creative that will not alienate or confuse an audience while conversely not bore them. For example, the range of acceptability for a medical device in a vertical trade publication will differ from an outdoor gear product targeted at an adventure racer.
Once we have determined this range, we will push to the more progressive side to attract as much attention as possible. While sketching out these concepts, we are constantly asking ourselves “Does this SELL?”
